In 2002, Ashleigh Banfield and her future-husband Howard Gould literally had their fates intertwined one afternoon near New York's Central Park. The former MSNBC anchor was walking her dog to the park, when it's leash became tangled with another dog being walked by Gould, a NY real estate financier. The couple started talking, and soon fell in love.
Two years after their accidental meeting, Ashleigh and Howard were married on July 24, 2004 at the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. Ashleigh spent much of her childhood at the club, so it seemed like the perfect place to begin life with her husband. The ceremony was performed aboard a custom-built, 85-ft. yacht from the 1930's named the Grace Anne II.
Ashleigh wanted a wedding dress that diverged from tradition, so she called upon famed fashion designer Laura Madrigano to design a unique outfit. Laura designed a wedding dress with pants rather than a skirt, which suited Ashleigh's graceful and professional style. The outfit featured a beaded pantsuit, satin top, and fish-shaped earrings to match the nautical theme.
Laura Madrigano consulted on the Nautical theme of the wedding, and also designed custom bridesmaids' and flower girls' dresses, as well the table runners, ribbon-wrapped napkins, gift bags, and other decorations for the reception of nearly 200 guests.
The reception was held in two rooms at the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. Laura teamed with the florist and to decorate the tables with calla lily centerpieces, alternate-colored Hampton table runners, napkins folded in the shape of sailboats, maps and flags and other nautical decorations.
This was one of the most exciting projects Laura Madrigano has worked on, as well as one that she is most proud. From the custom designed dresses for bride, bridesmaids and flower girls, to the reception decorations and Nautical swag bags, Laura's unique style shone through.
